On May 21, 2003 an earthquake occurred in Boumerdes, Algeria. The magnitude of the earthquake was 6.8 on the Richter scale and it lasted for almost 30 seconds. This devastating event caused a great deal of destruction to both lives and property as well as leaving many people homeless or without basic necessities such as food and water. 

في 21 مايو 2003 وقع زلزال في بومرداس بالجزائر. وبلغت قوة الزلزال 6.8 درجة على مقياس ريختر واستمر قرابة 30 ثانية. تسبب هذا الحدث المدمر في قدر كبير من الدمار لكل من الأرواح والممتلكات وكذلك ترك العديد من الناس بلا مأوى أو بدون الضروريات الأساسية مثل الطعام والماء.

The epicentre of this quake was located near Zemmouri which is approximately 40 kilometres east-northeast from Algiers, the capital city of Algeria. Aftershocks were felt throughout much of Northern Africa but especially in nearby towns like Dellys where some buildings collapsed due to their weakened structure after being subjected to strong shaking from the initial shockwave that struck Boumerdes firstly . 

وكان مركز هذا الزلزال بالقرب من الزموري التي تبعد حوالي 40 كيلومترا من الشرق إلى الشمال الشرقي من الجزائر العاصمة ، العاصمة الجزائرية. وشعرت الهزات الارتدادية في جميع أنحاء شمال أفريقيا ، وخاصة في البلدات المجاورة مثل دليس حيث انهارت بعض المباني بسبب ضعف هيكلها بعد تعرضها لهزات قوية من الصدمة الأولية التي ضربت بومرداس أولاً.

This terrible tragedy led directly or indirectly to over 2200 deaths with thousands more injured while also resulting in severe damage not only within Boumerdes itself but also across neighbouring cities too - including Algiers (which experienced significant power outages). Furthermore, hundreds upon hundreds lost their homes either through complete collapse or partial damage; leading them into homelessness until they could find alternative accommodation elsewhere if possible at all! In response various aid agencies provided relief packages consisting mainly foodstuffs & medical supplies alongside financial assistance towards rebuilding efforts afterwards – something which continues even today despite limited resources available still remaining scarce overall unfortunately enough.
